What we do

Our Presence in Action (PIA) practice is at the heart of everything we do.

We offer a broad range of services to a diverse range of clients, including corporate executives, academics, school staff, artists, parents and children.

Our services include:

  • PIA 1:1 Hosting/Coaching. Our 1:1 Practitioners will support you to pause, reflect, inquire and make sense of what is going on in your world, helpingyou navigate it with greater presence and clarity of purpose.

  • PIA Group Reflective Spaces. We work with groups  to attend to what is going on individually and collectively within the group.

  • PIA Supervision for individuals and groups  to enhance the practice of those supporting others, such as coaches, school staff, and HR.

  • PIA Experiential Workshops on Feedback, Culture, Hybrid Working and Self-resourcing, as well as bespoke topics.

  • PIA Retreats to meditate, learn, write, and gain personal insights.

  • PIA Meditation - bi-weekly sessions on-line (free-of-charge) and annual in-person retreats. These are open to anyone and are hosted by PIA Group Practitioners.

Our approach and way of working

An initial conversation helps us understand what you are noticing that makes you recognise that something needs to change.

All our services are delivered by Community Accepted PIA (CAP) Practitioners. They have had years of engagement in our PIA Apprenticeship Learning Ecosystem, are committed to participating in ongoing PIA Supervision, and hosting and/or participating in at least two Community in Practice days as part of their continuing personal and professional development. Most importantly, all our Practitioners use the PIA practice on themselves and with each other.

Our framework

At the heart of our PIA practice is the P6 ConstellationTM. This distillation of a lifetime's learning, comes to us through Dr Louie Gardiner, our founding practitioner and trainer.

The framework enables us to illuminate thinking and behavioural patterns that are often non-consciously manifesting within an individual, group and even entire culture. We know, from direct experience of working with our diverse range of clients, that by becoming more conscious of our patterns, we open up new possibilities of flow and change from a presenceful place.

Our Intention

We provide benefit to people of all ages, in diverse cultural, social and professional context.

Our purpose is to regenerate personal and social learning, relationships and well-being.

Our vision is of thriving, inclusive, regenerative relationship everywhere.

We do this by resourcing Presence In Action Practitioners - members of the professional body of PIAC - to deliver creative projects to inspire, engage and equip those who often have least access to such personal, social and professional developmental opportunities.

As a social enterprise we also have bursaries to fund ongoing membership, supervision and training.

Our Services

Our Member Practitioners come with varied experiences in diverse fields. They are constantly developing their skills at delivering our work, through Supervision, Triad Practice and Community in Practice days. This forms our Presence in Action Learning Ecosystem (PALE) which is a membership body.

We currently offer 1:1 hosting/coaching; group facilitation; supervision; large scale cultural change programs; tailored workshops with a specific focus e.g. Giving and receiving feedback, Non-Conscious Bias and Presence in Action Programme.

Self-resourcing in Education

Due to growing demands we are now offering PIA supervision and reflective learning groups to those working in education. Please find out more here.

Case Study Of Our Organisational Offering

Presence in Action Collective (PIAC) social enterprise has been working with the University of Edinburgh, offering a range of learning opportunities for people at various stages of their careers, including group training, one-on-one coaching, and reflective learning for academics, professional services staff, and PhD students since 2019.

Examples of our work include:

  • The Roslin Institute and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh University: Offering one-on-one and group learning spaces for those wishing to explore career challenges.

  • Mathematics: Providing targeted group and one-on-one spaces for women in academia and professional services.

  • Biological Sciences: Supporting over 20 staff members in both academic and professional roles with career development.

  • PhD students: Offering tailored workshops and coaching in partnership with the Wellcome Trust and Computer Sciences CDT programs.

The services provided by PIAC are particularly focused on supporting individuals with protected characteristics, such as parents, carers, neurodivergent individuals, ethnic minorities, and those undergoing career transitions at various stages (early and late career). The flexibility of offering both in-person and online development ensures a broad reach for diverse needs.

Staff who have engaged with PIAC have found it especially valuable for providing a space to voice challenges, practice difficult conversations, and reflect on work-life balance. What sets PIAC apart is its use of the P6 Constellation framework, which enables participants to apply it to themselves and navigate the complexities they face in a highly inclusive manner. This approach is tailored to provide more capacity and meaningful support, particularly when traditional, linear approaches do not address the full range of challenges.

“I notice that I am now more present in whatever I do. I am feeling more confident with myself, and that has improved a lot my interactions with others in both my professional and personal life. I feel it was a transformational experience for me.” Anna Eleonora Karagianni, HBLB Research Fellow DVM, MRes, PhD, MRCVS, The Roslin Institute (2021)
